The Expanse (2012)

The Expanse explores the contraction and expansion of different musical elements, including pitch, rhythm, and form. The lines either rise or fall while the pulse quickens or slows, creating a feeling of constant motion. The piece opens with a contemplative melody that seems to evoke an “expanse” as well. This tune returns several times throughout the piece, each time conveying a slightly different feeling.
